March 2020: the Covid-19 pandemic had recently shut down Cambodia and the world. People, communities, and businesses faced unprecedented challenges. In response, we did what we do best: we brought people together (online!) to find solutions.
In just one week, we organized an online hackathon called #HacKHtheCrisis along with our partners Slash and NIPTICT. Through the hackathon format, people from all over Cambodia came together to create solutions and concepts from scratch in a short amount of time. #HacKHtheCrisis resulted in three dozen actionable solutions — and fostered the kind of creativity and community that was otherwise all-too-rare in the early days of the pandemic.
We put out a call to the general public for “challenges” that could inspire ideas to help solve the crisis; help improve lives, business, and communities; and help Cambodia thrive post-crisis.
In a 48-hour hackathon, we brought together 200+ participants online to tackle the challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic, developing rapid prototypes in just one weekend.
The hackathon format facilitated collaboration, connections, and inspiration. We had people from all disciplines and ages. 55+ mentors volunteered their time to work with the teams.
35+ solutions were developed and submitted to the organisers, which covered topics such as wellbeing, agriculture, SME support, healthcare, medical support community support, and access to information.
