A six-month experiential leadership program to enable Phnom Penh youth from diverse backgrounds to become problem solvers, social innovators, and catalysts for positive change in their communities
About the Changemakers Social Incubator Program
Changemakers Social Incubator is back for a second edition! We set out to find youth 18-29 years old in Phnom Penh with ideas about how to make our society more diverse and inclusive. We found them – and now we get to work with them over the next few months to help them bring those ideas into reality!
The program is actively underway. Learn more about what’s going on behind-the-scenes below. Get in touch if you’d like to get involved!
Program Journey
Social Hackathon
August 2024
Over the course of 3 fun intensive days, we ideate innovative project ideas to make our society more diverse and inclusive. On the final day of the hackathon, 6 project ideas are selected to move forward in the program.
Project Implementation
Oct. 2024 – Jan. 2025
Participants get the chance to implement their own projects aimed to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in society. Each team has a $600 fund, access to online learning resources, and receives biweekly mentoring and training on digital advocacy and project management.
Immersion Field Trip
September 2024
The selected participants from the Social Hackathon, now part of our “social incubator,” go on a 2-day Immersion Field Trip to allow them to meet with experts and the local community to learn and get feedback on their prototyped solutions.
Intensive Leadership Bootcamp
October 2024
The bootcamp focuses on leading self (self-discovery of one’s own strengths, core values, passions, and goal setting); leading others (communication, leadership framework, leadership style, inclusion); and project management fundamentals (workplan, event management, financial management, M&E).
Youth Festival
January 2025
Participants showcase their projects and reflect on their learning, including sharing their multimedia products at the Youth Festival event. The event will be open to the public with project presentations, performances, exhibitions, and many activities to highlight the impacts of the projects.
Paid Internship
Plus… we also have a paid internship opportunity with Impact Hub Phnom Penh for three months to learn about project management, 21st-century leadership skills, and professional development, open for applications to youth who completed the Social Hackathon.
Anchored in Inclusion
The social projects supported through the program are focused on improving inclusion of three rightsholder groups: LGBTQIA+ individuals, Indigenous Peoples, and people with disabilities. We are collaborating with local leaders — members of these communities themselves — to guide our youth participants. Through the hackathon and follow-on activities, they are helping participants actively engage with and learn about the barriers that members of these rightsholder groups face in Cambodia; and then supporting them as they implement solutions.
