Mobilizing a grassroots movement for social impact

The Movers Programme mobilizes youth across Asia-Pacific to engage in local action on issues they care about, while helping them scale up their impact at a grassroots level. In 2021 and 2022, Impact Hub Phnom Penh implemented the Movers Programme in Cambodia, working with inspiring youth leaders and community partners across nearly every province in the Kingdom.

Applying the Movers approach, we created a one-of-a-kind, participatory space for youth to engage in social impact issues — helping thousands of young people discover their passion, take leadership in their communities, and build practical entrepreneurial skills.

“Since I have been a facilitator in the Movers Programme this year, I found myself improved enormously. I feel more confident when I’m on stage or doing public speaking. I’ve learned a lot about topics that school didn’t teach me, such as leadership, SDGs, and more skill that we, as 21st century youth, should have.”

The Movers Methodology

Movers Workshops

Movers Workshops are 2-hour fun and interactive sessions for youth to discover and relate to topics on 21st Century skills, entrepreneurial mindsets, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From workshops on community-building to storytelling to leadership, the curriculum is practical and allows facilitators to easily lead ready-made workshops.

Equipping Facilitators

After a youth joins their first workshop, they can then become a Movers Facilitator and lead the Movers workshops themselves! The idea is to inspire and build capacity of youth to deliver similar workshops within their communities. We organized trainings on workshop facilitation and project management to prepare youth to become facilitators.

Ongoing Guidance & Community

We continued to provide ongoing support to the facilitators across the country through monthly reflection meetings and an in-person gathering. As for the facilitators, they moved through the 7 phases of the Movers journey as they implemented workshops and mentored new Movers — one of the programme’s innovative movement-building incentives.
