What are the reasons behind the establishment of AIESEC?

To understand why AIESEC was created, we need to start from the beginning. After world war II, 7 students from different national and academic backgrounds believed that to have peace for the world, youth is the fundamental solution to make that happen. Hence, the first AIESEC was founded and then expanded to other countries throughout the world.

What are the problems that AIESEC is trying to address?

During the world war period, AIESEC believed that the wars happened due to the misconception between people. We believed that if people from different nations could understand one another, they would be able to coexist. Even if we can see that the world is currently somehow in a peace state, we still want to eliminate discriminatory mindset or racism. Along with this problem, we also see the potential of youth as we believe that as youth, they can do something to make a better future and not just depend on other stakeholders.

Can you tell me the vision of AIESEC?

At AIESEC, we envision the peace and fulfillment of mankind potential. We think that school is not the only place to learn. There is so much more inside them that has not been unlocked because they do not have enough opportunity to explore and figure out their talents. So AIESEC is that kind of platform that will help the youth to fulfill their potential while also promoting world peace.

What are the programs of AIESEC? Can you give us some details on those programs?

There are 4 main programs here at AIESEC, one of which is Team Member Program (TMP). This program provides opportunity for people to take part in the organization by working voluntarily on certain projects that we assign.

The second program is called, Team Leader Program, through which the members take on leadership role for a specific period of time, between 9 months to 1 year. After their term, the leaders can resign and new leaders will be selected through voting process.

The other 2 programs are Exchange Program and Global Internship Program. Through our Exchange Program, students will be provided with internship to other countries (the 126 countries in which AIESEC operates) where they will be doing social activities, whereas our Global Internship Program gives university students, especially those who graduated, the opportunity to work in private sectors outside Cambodia for 6 months to 1 year.

To gain access to the internships mentioned above, students can go to the application links and find specific project in which they are interested. Once they have done that, they can contact the nearest AIESEC agent and we will then do an interview with them to identify their qualification.

As the national vice president(s) of AIESEC Cambodia, what would you like to say to Cambodian youth?

Dany - I know how it feels like to be a student as I too am a student. But why do I have to go out there and experience new things? It is because I believe that school is not the only place where you can learn. As youth,we need to be brave and strong and we need more exposure to different things so that we can gain professional and personal development. This would help prepare us for the competitive job market in the future. In short, if you want to be different, do different.

Vuty - The message that I would like to send to them would be to take risk. There is so much awaiting for them out there. Youth can be afraid of certain things to some extent which limits their intellectual growth. Taking risk does not necessarily mean that we should do something that would destroy us, in contrast, it means that we should do something that would help us grow and come back stronger.
