We were very excited to see that four of our superstar Hubbers recently took part in the 1st ASEAN Entrepreneurship Summit in Kuala Lumpur, to wave the flag for Cambodia.
This event was aimed at ‘Futurising ASEAN Entrepreneurs’ and brought together entrepreneurs from across ASEAN to share ideas, best practices, develop solutions and partnerships that would benefit our region.
Sarath, Chunny, Chakrya, and Panchaneath were selected from among hundreds of entrepreneurs from all ASEAN nations to attend the MaGIC (MALAYSIAN GLOBAL INNOVATION & CREATIVITY CENTRE) Social Enterprise Bootcamp.
This action-packed, two-days workshop, gathered 150 top entrepreneurs into 10 cross-country teams and asked them to tackle 4 important and complex challenges: Poverty, Education, Environment, and Health. The teams were tasked with coming up with solutions for ASEAN-wide problems by using technology to achieve social and environmental impact. Projects emerging from each team were then to be pitched in front of a tough jury!
Through lectures and interactive group work, great ideas ideas were created, but the one which particularly catched the attention of the jury was ‘Knowledge Voice’, the project of the team of Sarath and Chakrya, our Phnom Penh Hubber entrepreneurs !
The idea came from a simple fact: in the rural areas of our region, most people live in great poverty. Entrepreneurship and value creation could be a solution to escape poverty, but illiteracy and the struggle to manage finances are real obstacles.
With the project Knowledge Voice, the people could overcome illiteracy and learn valuable entrepreneurial skills by subscribing to vocal lessons accessible with the most basic phones, using the IVR technology (Interactive Voice Response).
This project would be the result of a partnership with local NGOs and Telecom companies. The potential of this solution is enormous and it was therefore awarded the “best solution of the year” by the jury! Congratulations to all the PP Hubbers!
From this experience, Chakrya, Chunny, Panchaneath and Sarath came back with loads of positive energy, new ideas, technical knowledge (and a few selfies outside the Petronas Towers!) to share with their community and an even stronger will to change the lives of others through entrepreneurship !
“I hope they will make a new edition of the summit next year, and I strongly encourage young Cambodians to apply and join the event ! This is great inspiration from the people who bring the change in the world.” said Sarath.
